OUR MISSION...

WE AIM TO PRESERVE THE HONEYBEE POPULATION BY BUILDING SUSTAINABLE HIVES, PROTECTING THE BEES’ HABITAT, AND PROVIDING PUBLIC EDUCATION

What We do...

Save The Buzz builds permanent, sustainable honeybee hives.  The hives provide the bees with a protected habitat, which gives them a safe location to live free from environmental stressors and pollution. We also offer educational services to the public such as field trips and tours of the retreat.  We also sponsor hives near our local high school. We are working hard to design educational programs for younger children as well, so stay tuned!

Protecting the bees needs to be a top priority in our everyday lives.  These tiny superheroes are vital to the entire planet- without them, we would cease to exist.  Our goal is to maintain a natural balance with our winged friends through sustainable beekeeping techniques.  Because biodiversity is crucial to a healthy ecosystem, we work with other local beekeepers to breed “super bees” that are resistant to mites and other pests.  This ensures that future generations of honey bees (and the rest of us!) will thrive.

Our sustainable structures (BeeShip) will maintain life throughout all four seasons. They will provide permanent homes for our beloved bugs on the picturesque Siebert’s Ranch, located in Lyman, Wyoming. Our ranch’s high elevation of 6,706 feet (2,044 meters) is beneficial to our bees becauseof the low levels of air pollution and we have no large farms around us exerting harmful agrochemicals. The ranch is also surrounded by acres of alfalfa fields, wildflowers, and freshwater ponds, creating a perfect paradise for our honeybees.

Why we do it…

Save The Buzz is a nonprofit spin-off of Wyoming Gold Honey, Randy’s honey business.  Wyoming Gold Honey has been harvested since the 1970s. Wyoming winters can be brutal, so hives are trucked to California farmers to help pollinate fruits, nuts, and vegetables.  Save The Buzz was created to minimize the effects of Colony Collapse Disorder. We hope that better education about Colony Collapse Disorder, and efforts to prevent it, will help keep bees in Wyoming during the cold winter months.  Randy is a seasoned beekeeper- nearly three decades of experience tells him that avoiding the transport to California, as well as the pesticides and herbicides used there, will result in healthier bees and honey. Our heavy duty beehives will provide better insulation from harsh winters in the Rockies, keeping our bees right at home in Wyoming.

If the bee disappeared off the face of the earth, man would only have four years left to live.
